What is liquid culture?
Liquid culture consists of a growth medium and a high-quality fungal culture. The medium is specially formulated so that the fungal cells multiply as effectively as possible and form an extensive mycelium network. This mycelium can then be used for various applications.
How do I store a liquid culture syringe (before and after use)?
We recommend storing a liquid culture syringe in its original packaging and in the refrigerator upon receipt. The packaging protects against damage and contamination, while the lower temperatures ensure that the culture remains in optimum condition.
What is the shelf life of a liquid culture syringe?
For shelf life, we generally recommend a maximum period of two months, calculated from the date of receipt. To achieve the best results, using the syringe within this time frame is advisable.
However, this does not mean the syringe will no longer work after two months. The liquid culture syringe may still be usable after this period. If you choose to do this, make sure that you keep a close eye on the inoculated substrate to identify any problems early.
Will liquid cultures remain usable if stored unrefrigerated?
In many cases, liquid culture syringes will remain usable if stored unrefrigerated. This is also why they are shipped via standard shipping methods.
However, we strongly recommend that you store the syringes refrigerated upon receipt. Lower temperatures will inhibit mycelium growth and keep the culture in optimal condition for longer.

What do I need to use a liquid culture syringe?
All essential supplies are included with the syringe: the syringe itself, two alcohol wipes, and a sterile needle. The only additional items you need to provide yourself are a lighter or burner and a suitable substrate.
We also recommend using powder-free disposable gloves, disinfectant fluid, and a face mask during inoculation. These items are not strictly necessary but do increase the chance of success.
What is the ideal volume of liquid culture to use for each inoculation?
Based on experience, the ideal amount of mycelium to inject is approximately 5 milliliters for a standard liter jar filled two-thirds full with grains. This quantity ensures sufficient mycelium for rapid colonization while preserving the moisture content of the grains, which is essential for optimal mycelial growth.
Remember to adjust the liquid quantity proportionally when using different substrate amounts.
What are the advantages of using a liquid culture syringe compared to a spore syringe?
The two main advantages of liquid culture over spore solution are selected genetics and faster substrate colonization.
For our liquid culture syringes, we utilize isolated strains, which results in predictable and consistent outcomes. In contrast, when using a spore solution, a wide range of genetic combinations can arise, and not all of these combinations perform equally well.
Additionally, liquid culture promotes faster substrate colonization. Unlike spore solutions, liquid cultures contain living tissue, allowing the fungus to grow directly in the substrate as soon as it is injected. In contrast, spores must first germinate, which can lead to delays in the growth process.
