Penis Envy Magic Mushrooms: Origins and Genetics

The Penis Envy strain, also known as PE, is a sought-after variety of Psilocybe cubensis. It is best known for its potency and striking appearance.

The strain is believed to have been discovered in the 1970s and is closely associated with the renowned ethnobotanist Terence McKenna. McKenna is said to have collected spores from a unique cubensis phenotype in the Colombian Amazon. These spores were later given to either Steven Pollock or Richard Gee, or possibly both. They worked with the spores to further stabilize the genetics, ultimately leading to the creation of the Penis Envy mushroom we recognize today, a highly sought-after and potent mutation of P. cubensis.

Penis Envy mushrooms have a thick stem and a bulbous, caramel-colored cap. When touched, they may bruise blue, which indicates a high psilocybin content. Unlike other psychoactive varieties, these mushrooms retain much of their size and weight when dried. This is due to their massive structure. The gills, usually hidden under the bulbous caps, range from light to dark brown, and the spores are typically dark brown to purple. Overall, the Penis Envy strain is a truly distinctive variety.

The development of our Penis Envy liquid culture started with the realization that there was a lot of demand for this specific strain. The supply did not match this, so we decided to look for spores.

fter we had obtained a spore swab from a European vendor, the germination process started on agar media. Through multiple agar transfers, we selected the strongest and healthiest mycelium. This eventually led to several pure cultures we thoroughly tested for properties and performance. We selected the best-performing culture as the mother culture for our Penis Envy liquid culture syringes.

Although Penis Envy mushrooms are not particularly challenging to grow, the slower substrate colonization and fruiting phase requires a bit more attention. After all, a longer colonization time increases the risk of contamination, making clean work and careful monitoring essential.

When grown successfully, our Penis Envy strain produces massive, powerful mushrooms and impressive yields, often in multiple flushes. Due to their unique morphology, the caps rarely open fully, and spore production is minimal. For those seeking spores, a sterile cotton swab is the most effective collection method.

Each Penis Envy syringe contains 20 ml of live mycelium in a carefully formulated nutrient solution. The syringe is a high-quality B. Braun model for precise handling and inoculation.

Additionally, the product packaging contains two 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes, a sterile 16G syringe needle, and an instruction leaflet.
