Melmac Monster Magic Mushrooms: Origins and Genetics

Melmac Monster is a remarkable, lab-grown variant of the well-known and popular Penis Envy strain and could be considered an unofficial cultivar. Rumor has it that this strain is named after the planet Melmac, where ALF, the famous character from the eponymous TV series, came from. Melmac Monster magic mushrooms are often praised for their “alien” characteristics and exceptional potency.

The mushrooms usually have thick, fleshy, and twisted stems in white, gray, and yellowish hues. A characteristic of leucistic genetics. The spores are dark purple to brown and are often viable. It should be noted that Melmac Monster magic mushrooms do not produce large quantities of spores, though. Sterile cotton swabs are therefore recommended for adequate collection.

Growing this strain can be a bit more challenging and is best suited for growers with some experience. Because colonization and fruiting can be slow, more patience and attention to proper growing conditions is often required than with other Psilocybe cubensis strains.

Melmac Monster Liquid Culture Development

The development of our Melmac Monster liquid cultures involved a long process of isolation and refinement. The first step was to obtain viable spores from a European vendor. Once we had these, we germinated them on agar plates and selected sections of healthy mycelium colonies. We then inoculated several pots of sterilized rye with these mycelium wedges.

Once the mycelium fully colonized the rye substrate, we mixed the spawn with CVG substrate to stimulate fruiting. A promising specimen was then cloned onto agar, followed by multiple agar transfers to achieve a pure, isolated culture. Finally, through some final quality control checks, we ensured that the final product met our highest standards.

Although the process was time-consuming, we are proud to have been the first to produce a pure Melmac Monster culture. Every step we have taken ensures the high quality that remains clearly visible in our liquid culture syringes today. Although Melmac Monster is not the most straightforward strain to grow, we are convinced that anyone who tries it will be delighted with the result.

Each Melmac Monster syringe contains 20 ml of live mycelium in a carefully formulated nutrient solution. The syringe is a high-quality B. Braun model for precise handling and inoculation.

Additionally, the product packaging contains two 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes, a sterile 16G syringe needle, and an instruction leaflet.
