Description
Our Subaeruginosa spore syringe contains 10 ml of sterile aqueous solution with viable Psilocybe subaeruginosa spores. Each syringe comes with a 40 mm 16G needle and is prepared under sterile conditions.
Unlike an isolated liquid culture, a spore syringe contains a broad genetic pool. As a result, it provides an interesting starting point for exploring Subaeruginosa genetics, discovering different phenotypes, and selecting your own isolates.
Psilocybe subaeruginosa appearance
Psilocybe subaeruginosa produces slender mushrooms with caps that typically measure around 1.2–5 cm across. Young caps generally have a conical shape, while some specimens develop a small, raised point in the center.
Their color ranges from yellow-brown to orange-brown and gradually becomes lighter toward the edges as the cap dries. Young mushrooms may also show small remnants of their protective veil around the cap edge.
Meanwhile, the stems are tall and slender, typically reaching around 2.5–7 cm in length. They have a pale, whitish appearance with darker tones occasionally running along the surface. Handling or damaging the mushrooms can cause the characteristic blue-green bruising associated with this species.
Psilocybe subaeruginosa growth characteristics
Unlike Psilocybe cubensis, Subaeruginosa is a wood-loving species. In nature, it grows on decaying wood and other woody material rather than the dung-rich environments commonly associated with P. cubensis.
The species comes from a temperate climate and is associated with fruiting during the colder part of the year. Vigorous colonization has been observed, and established outdoor patches can potentially produce mushrooms during their first year.
These characteristics give Subaeruginosa a distinctly different growth pattern from the tropical and subtropical P. cubensis varieties in our spore collection.
What makes Psilocybe subaeruginosa unique?
Psilocybe subaeruginosa originates from Australia and represents one of the distinctive wood-loving Psilocybe species of the Southern Hemisphere. Australian mycologist John Burton Cleland formally described the species in 1927.
Its name refers to one of its most recognizable characteristics: the blue-green discoloration that develops when the mushrooms are bruised or handled.
Subaeruginosa is also closely related to Psilocybe cyanescens, another well-known wood-loving species. However, its Australian origin and long documented history give Subaeruginosa its own distinct place among temperate Psilocybe genetics.

Safety precautions and handling
When handling the Subaeruginosa spore syringe, it is crucial to follow proper safety precautions to avoid contamination and ensure a successful growth process. Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind:
- Always handle the syringe in a clean and sterile environment.
- Wear powder-free nitrile gloves and a face mask to prevent contamination.
- Minimize airflow in your workplace.
- Avoid touching the needle or the spore solution directly to maintain sterility.
- Store the syringe in a refrigerator at 3-5°C to prolong its shelf life. Use the syringe within 3 months after reception.
